Ownership and funding
Ownership
This site is owned and run by its editor, Lena Rose Williams, an independent journalist in Pittsburgh. No company, foundation or political organization holds a stake in it.
Funding
The site runs on the free tier of its hosting provider and costs almost nothing to operate. Its income, when it has any, comes from reader subscriptions and donations through the Substack newsletter and from freelance fees for stories published by other outlets. Any grant, sponsorship or donation larger than $500 will be listed on this page with the donor’s name and the amount.
Independence
No funder sees a story before it publishes, chooses what gets covered, or can ask for a record to be removed. A funder who becomes the subject of coverage is named as a funder on the page where the coverage appears.
