Sen. Frank Farry (R) won the 6th District in 2022 by 8 points on the same ballot that gave Josh Shapiro (D), running for governor, a 17-point margin there. Donald Trump (R) carried the district by 5.5 points in the 2024 presidential race.
The district lies entirely in Bucks County. It is one of four Republican-held seats Democrats are targeting; they need three of the four, and their own seats, for a Senate majority.
The candidates
Farry, 53, is chief of the Langhorne-Middletown fire company and has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years, according to WHYY. He won the 142nd House District in 2008 and held it until he moved to the Senate in 2022.
Eileen Hartnett Albillar (D) is 52 and has been Bucks County’s clerk of courts since January 2024. She was a Warrington Township supervisor from 2018 to 2023 and is a licensed social worker, WHYY reported.
The district
The 14 municipalities run from Bensalem on the Philadelphia line through Middletown, Lower and Upper Southampton, Northampton, Warminster and Warrington to Warwick and Wrightstown, plus the boroughs of Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, Penndel, Hulmeville and Ivyland.
Money and issues
Spotlight PA reported that both parties’ Senate committees backed their candidates here, though the report does not give a figure for this race. Statewide, the Senate Democratic committee spent $12 million from June 8 to Oct. 19 and the Republican committee nearly $10 million.
Hartnett Albillar’s “data senator” ad tied Farry to his law firm’s client NorthPoint, the developer of a Falls Township site where Amazon plans a data center, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Farry’s lawyer sent an eight-page cease-and-desist letter, and her campaign kept the ad up.
WHYY’s voter guide lists Farry’s issues as affordability, open primaries, SEPTA funding, the minimum wage and school funding, describes his part in bipartisan opposition to PECO rate increases and names the AFL-CIO and the teachers’ union, PSEA, as his endorsers.
The guide lists Hartnett Albillar’s issues as the minimum wage, school funding, SEPTA and energy costs, and her endorsers as the American Federation of Teachers and EMILY’s List.
The 2022 split
In 2022 the gap between Shapiro’s margin in the governor’s race and Farry’s was 25 points, the widest of the four Republican targets. John Fetterman (D) carried the district by 3.1 points in the 2022 U.S. Senate race.
